A Holiday Letter to our P.S. 36 Q Family from Principal Bonner!

As we come to the end of this year, I am writing to personally thank you for your collaboration, support & for entrusting us with your most prized possessions everyday – your amazingly brilliant children!  This has been a busy year and I am so proud of our school community.  As we step into 2023, we are committed to our mission and vision of putting kids first, all the time no matter what! We know that when we do so, our students will remain at the core of our work.

Although it has only been five short months, we have accomplished and shared so much together!  We had a successful opening of school (September 2022) and shared our mission and vision for our school community and work. This year, we are focused on curriculum development, understanding the State Standards and creating learning experiences for students that are not only aligned to the standards but also responsive to their individual, unique needs.  Our goal and expectations are that all our students meet or exceed the State Standards in ELA & Mathematics.

In addition, we cut the ribbon on our brand-new gymnasium and fostered a phenomenal partnership with RISE and EE&P Law Firm. This partnership allowed us to feed over 250 families during our Thanksgiving Turkey Drive and to host a school-wide toy & coat drive (where every student received a gift).  The holiday was made brighter with contributions by Toys for Tots and other organizations who are also in service to students!  Our team of awesome educators hosted Holidays Around the World and we held our first virtual movie night this month!  As of this writing, we are preparing for “College Day” on January 10th!  We hope you will join us for an informative and fun-filled experience!

I believe that our school will continue to develop and grow as long as we remain united in the vision and the work. It is my absolute honor and privilege to serve the PS 36 community and I am excited for what’s to come in 2023!

As you prepare for the upcoming holiday and the new year, I wish you and your family a beautiful, prosperous and joyous season.  Thank you for your partnership. I am truly thankful and grateful.

Merry Christmas, Happy Kwanzaa, & Happy New Year!

----Joi Bonner, Principal
